The galaxy far, far away has gotten a lot closer with the addition of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to the Disneyland park, it’s time to start looking at what’s next for the new land.
With the reservation period coming to an end at Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge and the land being open to the general public, many people are wondering what is next for the land? In this article, we want to discuss some of the things that Disney could bring to the land to make it even more immersive. We are not talking about things that are already set in stone, such as the new dark ride “Rise of the Resistance” that is set to open later this year, but instead, we want to imagine some new ideas that could add to the overall experience and immersion to the land.
Disclaimer: Everything written is just my idea. If Disney decides to add these elements to the land then it is purely coincidence.
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
On the top of our list is something that is hopefully going to happen and that is a new ride simulation on the ride Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. We have heard many people praise this ride and say that it is the better Star Tours due to the fact that you can interact with this ride. As of right now, the ride sets you up for an adventure with Hondo Ohnaka on a trip to Corellia to steal some coaxium that will greatly benefit the resistance. While this is a fun scenario to pilot the millennium falcon on, we wouldn’t say no to different missions on this ride that cycle randomly so you never know what scenario you are on. Some scenario examples could be a trip to Endor where you have to evade trees or maybe a trip through the mines of Crait such as Star Tours. There is definitely a plethora of options that they could create and the way the ride is laid out I feel like this wouldn’t be a problem.
When traveling to Batuu and visiting Savi’s Workshop you are presented with four different types of lightsaber builds you can create. The options include Protection and Defense, Peace and Justice, Power and Control, and lastly Elemental Nature. The protection and defense style is made to look like an ancient lightsaber something like from the old republic era. The Peace and Justice option is designed to look more like the modern Jedi such as Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Power and Control is designed to look more like a Sith lightsaber such as Darth Vader. The Elemental Nature option is designed to look like the pieces are made from nature such as wood pieces and Rancor teeth. While there are many options to choose from another idea we had was to either create more lightsaber types to choose from or offer more pieces for the current types. What we mean by this is having new pieces slowly added to the sets or creating new sets all together, we could see a rugged design such as Kylo Ren’s lightsaber that has exposed wires and looks roughly built. We would also like to see different pieces such as curved hilts like Count Dookus or maybe even a blaster hilt such as Ezra’s from the Rebels series. Adding new pieces or new sets will definitely have saber collectors running back to Savi’s to build another custom lightsaber.
The Droid Workshop is already filled with many options to customize your own R2 or BB unit what more could we possibly want? Well, some of the ideas we came up with were custom made GNK droids or other droids besides the R2 and BB unit. The Droid workshop also sells already built droids such as R2-D2, BB-8, and DJ Rex but we would also like to see already built battle droids, remote controlled Droidekas, and maybe remote controlled imperial probe droid that is basically a small drone. Also, the introduction of new pieces to the assembly line for the R2 units and BB units would definitely get people to come back and build new droids.
Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities
There isn’t much we would change about Dok-Ondar’s being that it’s our favorite shop in Batuu but what we would like to see are more collectible or limited edition items for sale. While Dok-Ondar offers a wide variety of Legacy Lightsabers to choose from there are still plenty of other lightsabers that are not offered in the shop and we would like to see them be slowly released in the coming years. Some lightsabers we would like to see for sale include Yoda’s lightsaber, Count Dooku’s lightsaber, Qui-Gon Jinn’s lightsaber and many more. We would also like to see more helmets implemented such as Mandalorian helmets and Palpatine Red Guard helmets. There is so much that they can sell at Dok-Ondar’s and we want it all.
Food and Drinks on Batuu
The food and drink options on Batuu are very limited and we would love to see that be changed. As of right now, the only places to eat are the quick service restaurant Docking Bay 7 Food and cargo and the Kiosk Ronto Roasters. Let’s start with our favorite of the two, Ronto Roasters, this is the spot to go when you want a quick meal on Batuu. The Ronta Wrap is amazing and the specialty drinks are outstanding as well. The only thing we would love to see added to the menu are some more food options as well as different wrap options. Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo is probably the place, in our opinion, that need more work. After trying about ninety percent of the menu the only thing we were blown away by was the Roasted Endorian Tip-yip Salad and the Fried Endorian Tip-yip. We thought both of these meals were really good, while the rest of the menu could use some work. We don’t hate the rest of the menu, the smoked Kaadu Ribs are delicious but the cabbage slaw and blueberry corn muffin just don’t fit with the meal. We feel as though if Disney goes back and revisits some of these dining options and changes them up or adds new entrees they could make Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo the place to eat at Disneyland overall. We mentioned earlier that Ronto Roasters has the best non-alcoholic drinks available on Batuu and that is saying something when there Oga’s Cantina’s non-alcoholic options. The few times that we visited Oga’s Cantina we only got Alcoholic beverages and they were super tasty and unique in their own ways, that being said we have heard some unfavorable comments about the non-alcoholic drinks. We have heard that they don’t really taste like much and that some are kind of bland with flavors not mixing right or just not showing up in certain drinks. We hope that Disney goes back and revisits these drinks to bring them up to the Disney quality we know they can be.
We would love to see changes come to Batuu even though it’s already perfect as is. Some of the ideas we had for this would be more walk around characters in the land such as Poe, Finn, General Hux, and some walk around droids. We already see that they can create life-size R2-D2 in the workshop so why not let it roam around the land and allow visitors to take photos with the different droids. Some small shows would be really interesting to see added to the land and what we mean by this is maybe have some Stormtroopers arrest citizens of Batuu and have the resistance come in and save them. Small encounters like these would really add to the immersion of the land and just add that extra Disney magic to everyone’s visit. Seasonal festivals on Batuu would also be really interesting to see implemented with limited food and items available to purchase. These festivals could be like the ones they have over in Walt Disney World (Flower and Garden Festival, Festival of the Arts, etc.) and would also add to the immersion as the citizens of Batuu would partake in these festivities by decorating the land or just interacting differently with visitors to the land.
While all of these ideas are just ideas it would be exciting to see Disney implement some of these changes for the future of Galaxy’s Edge. Hopefully, they maintain this land and give it the care and attention it deserves because it will benefit Disney greatly. Batuu is perfect as it is already but little changes like the ones described above would just push the land beyond how amazing it is already. With Rise of the Resistance opening later this year we will see how Disney treats the land and if changes will be made to continue to maybe Batuu and Galaxy’s Edge the amazing land it already is.
