A new expedition in an uncharted territory awaits eager explorers with the debut of Calico River Rapids, opening at Knott’s Berry Farm on May 17, 2019.
Come along, explorers! Join the citizens of Calico on a new adventure aboard the Calico River Rapids, a brand-new attraction debuting next month at Knott’s Berry Farm. Watch this video as Knott’s Berry Farm goes behind-the-scenes with the team at Garner Holt Productions for an inside look at the animatronics coming to Calico River Rapids.
Opening on Friday, May 17th, the new white water raft ride takes explorers on a search for a new land where indigenous wildlife, treacherous roaring rapids, dynamic water effects plus a variety of wild surprises will be encountered along the way. Taking place where Knott’s popular Bigfoot Rapids white water raft ride once was, the major renovation brings the addition of new features to the attraction including new animatronics, themed show scenes, a new story overlay and plenty of dynamic water effects. The attraction comes to life with new animatronics and special effects designed and manufactured by Garner Holt Productions, Inc. The company is no stranger to the park, as they have helped with retheming of iconic attractions such as Timber Mountain Log Ride. “In making Calico River Rapids,” said Founder Garner Holt, “I think one of the things we would pay attention to is keep [Ghost Town] as an entire community.”
The story behind this attraction follows Pox and Culter, two explorers who have traveled to Calico, have opened up a rafting supply company which will allow guests to travel the Calico River. Guests will board a circular raft, seating up to six passengers, as guests traverse through unexpected twists and turns, rushing waters and rapid currents as the raft navigates through the unexplored river path. The animatronics will continue the look and feel that guests have come to expect from Knott’s Berry Farm. The creative team behind the new attraction wanted Calico River Rapids to embody the river territory that existed before the settlers. “I think riders are going to be able to find new things every time they go on,” said Ken Parks, VP of Entertainment at Knott’s Berry Farm. “The attraction has been such a part of the Knott’s Berry Farm experience for so long, and it now has a story. It takes on a little more than just an attraction to get wet, but you can actually live in a world that wasn’t there before.”
Make sure to mosey on down to Knott’s Berry Farm on May 17 to experience Calico River Rapids!
